3-4 weeks out
- Book your moving bins or truck — Peninsula moving companies and equipment fill up fast around the 1st and 15th of the month
- Start a "keep, donate, toss" pass through closets and the garage — the less you move, the less you pack
- Confirm your new place's move-in requirements (elevator reservations, loading dock access, parking permits for a truck)
2 weeks out
- Submit a USPS mail forwarding request
- Update your address with your bank, DMV, and any subscriptions
- Schedule internet/utility transfer at the new place — Peninsula providers often need 1-2 weeks lead time
- Start packing non-essentials: off-season clothes, books, decor
1 week out
- Pack everything except what you'll need in the final days
- Label bins by room, not by category — it makes unloading dramatically faster
- Confirm delivery/pickup windows with whoever's supplying your bins or truck
- If you're on a street with permit parking, check whether your new block needs a temporary moving-truck permit — several Peninsula cities require one
Moving day
- Do a final walkthrough of every closet, cabinet, and the garage before you leave
- Take photos of your old place's condition for the deposit return
- Keep essentials (chargers, medications, a change of clothes) in a bag that doesn't get packed with everything else
